The AstraMax from LaserSight is the only 3D topography system. The AstraMax is a high tech corneal diagnostic unit which employs 3-Camera system able to measure corneal elevation and map the cornea from limbus to limbus on three axes as well as it can determine corneal thickness optically and detect any corneal abnormalities.
Using the AstraMax, the fine details of the patient corneal topography are transferred automatically to the computer, where the doctor will plan the surgery accordingly and choosing the best treatment parameters customized for each patient, this is done using the AstraPro custom ablaion software.
After the custom ablation planning is complete, treatment data is loaded onto the AstraScan XL Excimer Laser for the surgical procedure.
The AstraScan XL Excimer laser system has a Gaussian beam profile of less than 0.5 mm coupled with a fluence less than 100mj/cm2 running at 300Hz repetition rate, ensures the most accurate application of the treatment on the stromal bed. The smoothness and the high vertical and horizontal resolution position the laser will insure that the customized planned treatment is applied exactly as needed on the patient eye to give him the best outcome possible.
On the other hand, the fast repetition rate eye tracker (250Hz) will insure that the laser shots are correctly positioned on the patient’s eye regardless of the eye movement. This is possible thanks to the adaptive advanced intelligent IR Eye Tracker with high speed image processor, handling all eye movements, with no need for pupil dilation.
With these special features, the AstraScan family is able to maintain the cornea's natural PROLATE shape, and to preserve smooth corneal surface and thinning, by removing only the necessary tissue with minimal energy and small spot size to the cornea leading for better clinical outcomes.
